Just purchased my Stainless exhaust headers from Ebay. They are the Phoenix ones. Have ordered the rest of the system (twin sport units), from Moss (UK).

9/12/08.....Next I took the head apart for a thorough check out and glad I did!...The rocker shaft was badly worn as were the cam followers, these were also changed.

I opened the ports on both the inlets and exhaust ports (to the gasket size only), and did the same on the exhaust headers, this should enable it to breathe a little better.

I spent the weekend refitting the head on the engine block and rebuilt the rocker gear with new cam followers. One thing led to another and I fitted quite a few items back on the engine...thoroughly enjoyed my weekend

The gearbox mount was finished and I ended up using Poly bushes top and bottom

with a rubber bush on the top of the top poly bush. The poly bushes are reasonably firm and I added the rubber bush to kill vibration (just in case really).

2nd April 2010....I had a nagging doubt about the engine after seeing the condition of the rocker shaft and decided to remove it and strip it down. Considering it had been rebuilt, the quality of the work was dubious. I won't mention names but it wasn't a company in Western Australia.

The main bearings and big end shells were very badly scored. Bear in mind, this engine had not been run, it had been turned over by hand every week. The scoring was bad enough to warrant new shells and was obviously caused by a lack of cleanliness during the rebuild. New rings had been fitted but the bore had only been honed, not rebored. At this point I decided to go the whole hog and do it all properly.

A full rebore and camshaft bearings were fitted. The crank shaft, flywheel, clutch and front pulley were dynamically balanced and the con rods and pistons were also statically balanced. New pistons and rings (20 thou oversize) and the head was fully gas flowed. A roller rocker set will be fitted along with jaguar springs which are slightly softer than the originals. I am also fitting a Megasquirt electronic fuel injection system which will eliminate the Lucas MU and the distributor. I will start a new page for this as I get to the stage of fitting it all
