Body now off the chassis which revealed a couple of nasties (see below).
Both front and rear Diff mount needed repairing. Front Diff mount had a threaded rod through it and was packed out with a piece of wood??.
The chassis has now been sandblasted and etch primed. Apart from the Diff cross members, all looks good.
The Diff mount (front) was strengthened by welding plates to the top and the sides (still in red), these are 5mm thick so they should provide a lot more strength in this area. The rear Diff mount was treated the same way but with 3mm plate.
Chassis has now been painted with red oxide and had it's final coat of Anti-rust Blue. I decided to brush these on rather than spray as it applies a thicker coat. We don't have our roads salted in the winter here in Australia but I want to able to use the car in all conditions.
With the arrival of some needed parts, I fitted the Front and Rear Diff pins and associated plates. These included strengtheners ( side plates), on the front Diff pins.
This also included a new lower wishbone mounting bracket as the old one was quite badly bent and twisted. The metal was etch primed and coated with red oxide paint. The camera angle makes the pins appear to be splayed outwards but trust me...they're dead straight. Final coat of paint on the chassis.
I decided to add more strengthening to the front and rear diff mounts in the form of boxing them in. This follows some very good suggestions from fellow TR forum members, thanks fella's. Notice the front diff uprights have also been boxed in with drain holes.
